Mark Ward played baseball at Oklahoma in 1991 and served as an assistant coach in 1992. As a player he also played 2nd base at Texas Tech in 1990 and was a career .340 hitter. He transferred to Oklahoma for his senior year to play for Larry Cochell. Mark received his Bachelor degree at Oklahoma University in 1992 and his Masters Degree in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Ward has coached and managed one of the most dominate select summer baseball programs in America for the past 13 seasons leading the Oklahoma Travelers to 3 World Series Titles and more than 800 wins at the amateur level. The Travelers summer program is responsible for former OU players Ryan Minor, Damon Minor and Dusty Hansen that played key roles in the 1994 National Championship team. The Travelers Program has had 18 players drafted since 2004 and 110 received college scholarships. The OU players included Brad Burns, Nate Hammons, Levi Rhoades and current OU standout Dillon Overton. His network and relationship with coaches across the country makes him a valuable recruiter and asset for Oklahoma University. Ward specializes in infield defense, hitting, recruiting and game management.
Mark is the Co-Founder of Oklahoma’s leading High School sports website CoachesAid.com which networks him with players and coaches around the state. Coaches Aid now has a National infrastructure allowing for increased recruiting reach in every state. He has authored 2 Christian based books “The Perfect Game” and “Victory”. Both books are related to sports and life. It’s in this area that Mark has been dedicated to equipping coaches and players for life on and off the field.
Mark has long-term family ties to the Oklahoma University Baseball program. His father Bob Ward played infield for Jack Baer at OU in the mid 50’s. His brother played for Enos Semore in 1983 along with Mark’s first cousin John Russell that was breaking records at the school in the early 80’s before going on to play 10 years in the major leagues and becoming the Manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ward is an active member, and serves in Harvest Fellowship church in Leedey, Oklahoma. He is a traveling Christian motivational speaker, married to Carrie and has 4 children, Preslee 19, Luke 13, Parker 10 and Grace 5.
