GROWING IN GOD!

Growing In God
Growing in God is a process that we learn through God’s word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This morning I was reading in 2 Peter and this passage of scriptures gives us an outline of spiritual growth.
2 Peter 1:5-11 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
These scriptures tell us that if we lack these things we will be shortsighted and even blind which can cause us to forget that we were cleansed from sin.
Having faith in God is a must and we are either growing in God or we are in jeopardy of forgetting our salvation. As we seek the things of the world we become consumed by its nature and it draws us into fear and loss of identity. God’s salvation is eternal and we should be aware of our identity in Christ at all times and growing through the process found in 2 Peter. Verse 6 talks about the keys that I believe we struggle most with as Christians. These are “Self Control” and “Perseverance”. We need to be operating in these 2 areas and it requires faith and knowledge to do so.
I believe we get out of order in times when following God. First we need “Faith” and “Knowledge” of the word. 2 Peter gives us an “ORDER” of how things should be added to our walk with God. Our flesh sometimes causes us to jump around by our emotions and not stay the course and diligently seek God in a way that brings us spiritual growth and success.
Father God we thank you for your word and the plan that it gives us. We choose to operate in faith and knowledge so we can obtain self-control and perseverance that leads to Godliness brotherly kindness and Love! Thank you for giving us Your Word in Jesus Name! Amen!
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
