None Should Perish

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Webster’s Dictionary

perish |ˈperi sh |

verb [ intrans. ]

suffer death, typically in a violent, sudden, or untimely way

Based on God’s word we all need to come to repentance or we are in a position to perish.  I believe we can perish physically and spiritually.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

repent |riˈpent|

verb [ intrans. ] to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one’s life;

feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin

Question:  Do You Need To Repent?

I believe that we have the “potential” to sin on a daily basis. When we become saved we begin the process of walking out our salvation. His “word” will reveal to us areas of inadequacy.  We are constantly being transformed to become who God created us to be, so therefore we should be walking in a state of “repentance”.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Example:  As more of our faults are “revealed” to us and as we correct our sin nature, we should be walking in humility to God who is perfect.  Through this humility we are honoring God as “Worthy” and the one who has freed us from sin.  We can repent of our fault of sin as it is “exposed” in us.  As we transform we start to eliminate the areas that have caused us to slip and fail.  This is the process of becoming complete in the Lord.

As our “nature” changes to become more like God over time, we will be aware of areas of fault that our old “nature” didn’t recognize.  This happens during our “spiritual transformation”.

James 1:4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

We will never be perfect as God is, but we can grow in our walk with God to become more complete by His Grace and Love.

As I have sought God personally, my desire to please Him has become greater than the desire to please the world.  When this happens I find myself constantly needing to turn from the temptation that presents itself.

As we are confronted with new things in life, we have an opportunity to analyze them in our heart and by God’s word to determine if it is good for us or not.

The enemy can scheme new schemes and knows our areas of struggle.  Do we know ourselves enough to recognize the temptations and traps that are awaiting us?  Can we cut off those situations and place ourselves in environments that remove the enemies plan to deceive us before hand?

Ephesians 5:10-12 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things, which are done by them in secret.

This scripture tells us that we will need to “find out what is acceptable to the Lord”.  We do this by listening to the Holy Spirit, reading the Word of God and prayer.

Father God, we seek you to find out what is acceptable to you.  We repent of the areas that we have fallen short. We repent of the areas you reveal to us that we need to change as we grow in you. In Jesus Name Amen!

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
