A Godly Answer In A Confused World!

A Godly Answer in A Confused World!

Luke came home from college at OU this weekend and Carrie was telling me about an answer he gave to questions in his philosophy class. I believe in my heart I needed to share it in this blog. The question was similar to this. “If a person does no wrong are they happy? Will a wicked person suffer? and is life ultimately fair?

As Luke’s father I felt led to share his answer to his teacher.

First of all, I would like to state where my beliefs come from. As the son of a Christian Pastor most of my belief system stems directly from the Bible. I disagree with a part of the question itself. The question talks about a person who does no wrong. Whether this is hypothetical or not is beyond me, as I believe that the only person that has ever existed that was without flaw was Jesus.

Let’s assume for my answer that this is a hypothetical person then, “one who does no evil.” When asked the questions, “Will a good person also be happy,” and “Is life ultimately fair,” the thought popped into my head about all these scriptures I could go into detail on. However, as this is a class of personal beliefs in my opinion, it is only fair that I deliver what I truly believe in at face value.

I do not believe that a good person will always be happy. Trials are everywhere in the world and even though this person does no evil, evil is still in the world. Evil brings all things that counter happiness. For a person to be happy, all things around them must also bring happiness.

This brings us to the next part of the question “Will a wicked person surely suffer.” For this part I will have to dive back into my Christian viewpoints. If a wicked person does not turn away from their wickedness and repent and ultimately go through Jesus, then yes they will ultimately suffer. This viewpoint is based on my Biblical upbringing and is what I hold to be true. However, I do believe that there is a balance of good and evil in people. That being said, I believe in the scripture Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” This is a belief that has gotten me through times of being unhappy, and I am called according to His purpose.

“Is life ultimately fair?” This one gave me mixed feelings about even my own beliefs. On one hand there are people who are unjustly and falsely accused and persecuted. While on the other, there are people who do wrong and get away with it. The answer in the chapter goes into detail about government and people trying to get everything right, but we as a people live in a fallen world. Overall, the scripture Romans 8:28 still remains true through this situation.

Even through all of this, I believe God’s word is true and therefore believe that this statement is true. Life is fair. Do we face trials and tribulations? Yes, but in the end, according to what I believe in, all things work for the good for those who do not even deserve it. In my opinion, none of us deserve that.

Amen!

Mankind has the choice to try and attempt to answer deep questions about life with human thought, but only the Truth of God’s word can bring clarity of life the way God created it.

Romans 8:28-31 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
