JESUS, THE SOURCE OF POWER

(A Dream from the Holy Spirit)

December 10, 2006

I had a dream in 2006 that I wanted to share with you today.  As I have grown in the Lord I realize my writing has changed and my spiritual perspective deepens.  At the time this dream was written in 2006 it had a very profound meaning on my life and I am certain that its message will help someone.

The dream began as we came home to our old house in Camargo, Oklahoma. There was work being done to repair the home and changes were being made.

When we entered the living room a friend of mine reached for an electrical cord on the wall. He grabbed it and it began to electrocute him. Another man who was with us told me that the power was killing him and we needed to help him. I realized we needed to shut down the power to the cord. If we could shut it off, we could save him. If we grabbed him we would die ourselves from the same electrical shock.

We ran to the source of the power, which in this case was the breaker box at the back of the house. We began to flip switches to turn off the power. Then I realized we needed to turn off the whole system. For some reason, flipping the single switches wouldn’t turn off all the power.

We ran back into the living room where the man was dying and someone who loved him very much had already taken hold of the electrical cord. This person was not being shocked. We screamed, “Go ahead and pull it out. You can save him.”

This person pulled out the cord and the man was alive and no longer being shocked. Then things changed and I realized the person that had been dying was my son, Luke. He was trembling and shaking as he said, “That was the worst possible pain I could have ever imagined.” I saw the look on his face, and he was saying, “Why couldn’t you turn it off, Daddy?”  He was just 8 years old at the time.

Guilt shot through my body. Why didn’t I know how to save him? It brought me great pain to see and hear my son say this. It is something that no one wants to hear or see. I realized at that point that I needed the knowledge to turn off the power. I needed to shut it off at the source.

I gained a deep understanding of what to do in life. My son needed me to help provide a way to shut off the source of power that was bringing him great pain and ultimately death. It’s the pain of this world without the Lord.  I would have easily traded places with the man if I had known it was my son. The problem was without the knowledge to turn off the switch the right way, I would have watched him die and me along with him. If I had fallen into the same trap of grabbing the cord, I would have perished as well.  We need to avoid the trap of the enemy that leads us astray.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

I realized that someone was holding the cord the whole time. I couldn’t see him. I had the ability to take away that pain and save my son from death all along. When I realized that I could just ask the person to pull the cord out, we both could be saved. The person was Jesus. He had His hand on the cord before the situation began. We simply needed to ask Him.  It’s about giving permission to the Lord for our lives.  We need to humble ourselves and allow God to become our source.

Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

We face this problem in the world every day. People are dying a terrible death. They have the source of power to bring them victory and to stop the pain at the source. They simply need to ask for it.

When Jesus died at the cross, He took away the pain for all of us. He pulled out the cord from the source, which was Satan. You see, when I realized it was Luke in my dream, it brought a new meaning to my life. My desire not to see my son suffer and perish gave me great reason to take his place. I believe this is why God sent His Son to the cross to die for us.

We must remember that we are God’s children. He looks at me the same way I look at Luke. He sent His Son to take our place. He watched Him hold onto the cord and die a horrible death. He raised Jesus from the dead so that by believing in Him we would never be harmed again or perish. The look Luke gave me reminded me of when Jesus looked at the Father and said, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Mark 15:34 NKJV).

The pain I felt for my son was greater than life itself. How important is it that I teach my children the Word of God and help lead them to salvation? Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (See John 14:6.) If I could have made the way so Luke would not suffer or perish, I would have done it. God did that for us, but so many people don’t get it! They continue to suffer miserably in life, which leads to spiritual death. We need to help get them plugged into Jesus, who has the power to pull out the evil source of this world.

Analysis

This dream revealed to me how important it is to put Jesus first. When we do, we become mindful of others, not self-minded or selfish. When we obtain the freedom of the Lord, our hearts change and we understand how important it is for others to reach the same place. It is so important that this becomes our mission. This is why it says in the Word that we are all laborers in the Lord’s work. It is like a law, like the law of gravity.

When we truly get plugged into Jesus, the love for others is so strong that it outweighs life itself, and the Great Commission becomes our first priority. The security of being saved and having a relationship with the Lord changes our mind-set. We are no longer afraid for our own lives. When we receive this great revelation, we become very powerful for the Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
