CLOSE ENOUGH TO MATTER

Close Enough to Matter

(Revelation)

I had a dream where I was coaching my son Luke’s baseball game. As I was standing in the first base coaching box, I noticed my son was on deck and ready to hit. I was distracted for some reason and I began to pay attention to the dugout. They were having trouble with their computer and needed help fixing it. As I walked over to help them, I was watching my son bat. Instead of immediately going back to the coaching box I walked down the first baseline to pick up a ball that had been left on the field.

I was about a hundred feet away when my son got a base hit into right field. It was just barely fair down the line. He was safe at first, and a run scored on the hit. As the throw fell to the ground a few feet past the bag in front of Luke, he took a couple of steps off the base and gladly tossed the ball back to the umpire.

At this point, I am walking back to the coaching box and realize the umpire is calling Luke out for some reason. I am upset at this point and quickly ask the umpire why he called him out. It was obvious that the umpire had made a mistake, but he was unwilling to change the call he had made.

The revelation I received was if I had been close enough to the play, it would have never happened. I could have done many things to avoid the conflict. I could have called time out, got the ball myself, or even suggest that he stay on the base and not get the ball.

Question of the Day:  Are you letting God be close enough to make a difference in your life?

This dream taught me a valuable lesson in life. As a father, I need to be close enough to my children to make a difference in their young lives. It is a position that can never be taken for granted. The deception and plan of the enemy to deceive our children are great, and we can miss a moment to make a difference in their life if we are caught off guard.

My son had done the right thing in this dream, but he was punished for it. Often, the same thing happens in life. We can make what we believe is a good decision and let our guard down. Luke got off the base when he thought it was safe.

As parents we all realize we can’t be there all the time for our children, but we need to be engaged in the important things in life and be close enough to them to help them grow up in a Godly way.

Thank God we serve a Father who will never leave us or forsake us when we are deceived. Our Father is close by and will be there to help us with our decisions. He also created a way through Jesus to be able to clean up our mistakes.

As a father to my son, I wanted to go back and fix the situation by being close enough to matter. I couldn’t go back and fix it.

With Jesus as our Lord, we have the right to not have to deal with the condemnation of the mistake. We can come to His throne and rewrite the wrong decisions we have made in the past.

Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Thank you Jesus for redeeming us.  This story is a reminder that we will mess up at times and fall short of making the right decisions.  Keep our focus on our priorities and the wisdom to make the best decisions for our children in Jesus Name! Amen

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
