THE PATIENCE OF GOD
The Patience of God
Saturday mornings are special, especially when it rains. We had a big day planned with both of our boys playing in baseball tournaments. The games were rained out and we had a day to spend with family at home.
The busyness of life seems to continue. It reminds me to stop and enjoy the things that God has given us and to be patient with our day-to-day lives.
Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
“Patience” is also defined as longsuffering, meaning we often suffer to wait. Patience is probably the hardest item from the fruit of the Spirit that I have had to adapt to, even though it probably is the most rewarding. When we are patient, we take the time to seek out the goodness in every situation. It allows the work of God to take place and move in our lives without us reacting to situations out of emotion.
When we react out of emotion, we often make more and more problems for ourselves and start a chain of never ending problems. Patience allows us to stop and look at the important things in life, such as family, and be there to meet their needs.
The most important aspect of walking with God might be patience. At times I have seen God work things out for me that are amazing. The work He does is perfect, and He takes the time to create scenarios that affect everyone with His plan for us, even in the little things. I believe we rush God because we are only thinking about the one thing that we need fixed and refuse to see the impact that it has on other people and situations.
God hears our prayers and begins to do a work. When we lack patience, we sometimes react before He can perform the perfect solution.
Patience is a choice. We must choose to slow down and put time into our loved ones and pray about our decisions. It is a struggle to be patient. It is often understood that the bigger the need, the harder it is to wait.
Lord, give us a strong revelation to realize that patience truly is a virtue. May we diligently seek You, but also choose to wait on Your hand to move in our lives. Amen!
