THE UNDO BUTTON

Daily Diary - January 11th 2016

The Undo Button

(Revelation)

One morning I was asked to preach at our local church. I had spent many days working on the message for this particular Sunday. When I awoke that morning, the Spirit of God gave me a revelation and an analogy that would support my message.

I made my way to the computer and began typing out this revelation. When finished, I went to wake up my children, Luke, Parker, and Grace. During this time, my cat had made her way to the computer.

When I returned to finish up the message, I realized that the revelation I had written had disappeared. I saw my cat jump from the table and realized that she had erased the word I had just written by stepping on the keys.

I began to pray and say, “God, help me to regain the information that I had written.” Then I realized something. I could push the arrow back on the computer. This also is known as the “UNDO” button. It took three undo’s to get back to the message that God had given me.

I believe computer programmers knew that people fail in the areas of writing, grammar, and spelling. Therefore they created this button to eliminate mistakes. The delete and backspace button also come in handy.

The revelation I gained from this is that people recognize our ability to fail at a high level, so much that the computers are designed with three different ways to cover up our mistakes. Most computers even have the system restore function in case total disaster strikes.

The parable of the computer and the delete button relates to life. We go through life doing the best we can. At times we need to back up and try things over (backspace).

Other times we wish we could delete something we did, and most of all, it would be great if we had an undo button in life to eliminate the major mistakes. We continue to walk out most of the foundational plans of life, which means we basically are allowed to back up and do it again. Hopefully, we learn from the things we wish we could delete and not make the same mistakes again. And finally, we will fail at being perfect in life.

When we conclude that we are prone to fail, we need the revelation of Jesus! God sent His Son as the ultimate undo button. At the cross Jesus shed His blood and rose to heaven so our sins could be undone!

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

I believe people will walk either in selfishness and pride with the idea that they don’t make mistakes worthy of the undo button. Or they will conclude that they have failed and potentially will fail often and need a Savior to rescue them and allow their mistakes to be undone or deleted. The world may continue to accuse us of the failures, but God doesn’t, not when Jesus is our Savior. The computer would prove otherwise.

Psalms 103:12 He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west.

Romans 4:7 Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.

How many times does God give us something that will help us, and because of things in our lives, we lose it due to things of this world? The revelation I got was that we make mistakes in following God’s plan – some we can control and others we cannot.

Jesus is the ultimate undo button!

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
