Cast Our Fear!

Daily Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

We read this scripture and often quote it to people who are experiencing fear in their lives.  Rather it is a tragedy or another form of trial, fear has many faces.

As we focus on this very powerful scripture, I am lead to break it down and talk about the scripture as a whole.

First of all it says that God has not given us a “spirit” of fear. This implies that fear itself is a spirit.  God did not give us this spirit.  It also indicates that Power, Love and a Sound mind are also spirits by the nature of this context and those are given to us by God.

Question of the day:  How many of us have fear?  What do we fear?

Throughout the bible it talks about the “spirit”, the Holy Spirit and even Evil spirits.  So we can conclude that the bible is no doubt a spiritual book.  So many times Christians seem to steer away from talking about spiritual things as if they are mysterious or that they don’t believe in the idea of a “Spirit”.  This is hard to understand when the essence of the Bible itself is spiritual in nature.  In fact it is the Holy Spirit of God that Jesus sent as our helper and guide.  This spirit is “HOLY”, so therefore it is called the Holy Spirit.  It is defined as the spirit of Him who is Holy, which is the spirit of God the Father and Jesus the Son.  This completes the “TRINITY”.

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

The Holy Spirit is sent by the father in the name of Jesus to teach us all things, and remind us of all the things that Jesus said.

Do we hear Him?  Are we listening?

We are in spiritual battle daily and most of the “Spirits” we face are not Holy or from God.  Therefore we need a way to fight off such spirits.  The spirit of “Fear” we mentioned is running rampant across the world and people need to know that this spirit did not come from God, nor is it Holy.

Since Jesus finished the work at the cross these spirits met their match and have no authority to control us accept for the place that we give them.  We allow it because we are not aware of the power that we have in Jesus, or not using our authority to defeat it.  The Holy Spirit can reveal to us how to win spiritual battles and the Word of God is the manual.

2 Timothy 1:7 gives us a guide how to handle the spirit of fear.  It says God did not give us a spirit of fear, but rather of power, love and a sound mind.  Right in this scripture in 2 Timothy it tells us that the spirit God gave us should eliminate the spirit of fear.  We have the “POWER” to do so by the blood of Jesus.

It is ultimately about our “identity”.  We fear because we have lost our identity in Jesus.  Without God we are hopelessly trying to be accepted by other people and other things.  If we “Belong” to Jesus we are accepted by our maker and are at peace.  This position of “Acceptance” brings peace to our soul, which eliminates fear.  The LOVE of our father at the cross was the replacement of our fear.  This act of Jesus ultimately took our place of judgment and proved us “Accepted” by God.

When talking about “Love” in this scripture I was led to 1 John 4:17-19 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.19 We love Him[a]because He first loved us.

He made us perfect at the cross!

We are in spiritual warfare daily.  We face spirits of fear, jealousy, envy, pride, greed etc.  These spirits when we exercise them are going to bring us harm because they are not of God.  Therefore they are not of the HOLY spirit.  They come from us not knowing our identity!

We need to know Jesus as savior and seek the answers from the Word of God and rely on the HOLY spirit to show us where we fall short and need to change how we think, by using the “Sound Mind” that God gave us.  When we use Power, Love and a Sound Mind we can eliminate a spirit of Fear, along with any other spirit that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Follow the “Truth” of God’s word that you are accepted by God who loved you enough to send His son to take your place and making you “Righteous” in Him!

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
