GOD'S PROMISE

Daily Diary January 22nd, 2019

God’s Promise

We go through life making many promises to ourselves and to others.  We also have had people make promises to us that sometimes are broken.  This is part of human nature and unfortunately we will face many broken promises that can cause us to lose hope.

These broken promises are not like the promise of God.

1 John 2:24-26 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.

Webster’s Dictionary

Promise

promise |ˈpräməs|

noun;  a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that guarantees that a particular thing will happen

Our failed flesh nature is what causes us to struggle at keeping our promises.  We are conflicted by what is “truth” of God and what is the “lie” of the enemy.  Our temptation is our enemy to broken promises.

Question:  Have you ever broke a promise?  Has anyone broke a promise to you?

Many times we are quick to point out broken promises of others, but are reluctant to admit that we have failed in this area as well.  Our own accountability will keep us free from the “Blame Game” of broken promises.  The fact is that we all are flawed when it comes to being perfect in this area.

God is not a man that He should lie and therefore He is also not capable of breaking His promise to us.

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Key scripture:  2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

I highlighted the “in Him” in this scripture to point out that all the promises IN HIM are Yes and Amen to the Glory of God through us.  Many times we read this scripture and the promises that we pray for are “OURS” in nature.  This is not what the scripture says.  Only the promises in Him, which is Christ Jesus, are “yes and amen”.

We need to be in Christ Jesus so therefore through us God will reveal His glory to His people and the promise of eternal life is ours now and forever.  Our nature causes us to misinterpret God’s word to make it out to be what we want it to be.  If things are not going well we blame God as if He has broken His promise to us.  This is simply not true.  We are the ones that are conflicted and need to change.

John 3:16-17   For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Father God, we repent of our broken promises to ourselves and to others.  We trust that Your word is true and you have given us an unshakable promise of eternal life now and forever in Jesus name, Amen!

Philippians 4:19  And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
