THE FRUIT OF DISCIPLINE

Daily Diary January 23rd, 2019

The Fruit of Discipline

We strive to have discipline in life for many reasons.  Some of which include; exercise, weight management and especially job requirements.  We must discipline ourselves in the Word of God and make it our highest priority.

Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

To produce a harvest of righteousness we must be trained in the word of God and create an ongoing relationship with Him.  This takes “discipline” on our part.

I have learned that there are many areas of discipline in following God that are valuable for our walk with the Lord. 3 things that stand out with me are; 1. Read the Word, 2. Prayer and 3. Attend a life giving church.

We must read the word of God to know the “Truth”.

John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

If we want to be free in life it is pretty simple.  Abide in God’s word!

It takes “Prayer” to have this relationship.  This cannot be a faithless prayer life, but a prayer life that is committed to God’s outcomes.  He is a good father.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Question:  Do you really pray to God?

It took discipline for me to pray with my wife each day. It started a relationship in which I found myself praying to God throughout the day on issues that came up.  It wasn’t stop and hit my knees all day long, but simply a subtle talk with God in all things during the day.  Not just the troubles of life, but the blessings as well!

Be consistent in a “Life Giving, Bible Based Church”.  We need relationships with other Christians and a pastor that will speak the true word of God.

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Summary:  We need discipline to be able to produce a harvest of righteousness.  There are 3 key areas that we need to discipline our walk with God.  Read the Word, Pray in Faith and faithfully attend a life Giving church.

Father God, we thank you for our ability to choose you.  We discipline ourselves in the areas that draw us to our destiny in you.  Thank you for our relationship with you in the name of Jesus.  Amen!

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
