HOW DO YOU PRAY?

How Do You Pray!

Prayer is an amazing part of our relationship with God.  When we pray we connect with God in a personal manner and He is listening!

Remember God wants us to share in a relationship with Him and wants us to talk to Him about our situations.  This requires us to grow just like any relationship so therefore a deeper understanding of God will make our relationship better.

In the early days of my prayer life I felt disconnected and somewhat unworthy to pray. It was a feeling of being alone or distant from God.  I also noticed that a lot of others would sound the same way that I was and I could feel them being uncertain of what to pray. For me I didn’t know enough about God to understand His plans for me, or His true nature.

Many of the prayers I heard would start like this; “Lord Help Us”.  When I heard this type of prayer God brought me a great revelation.  “I have already finished the most powerful work possible by sending my son for your salvation. You have the power of everlasting life, my Word and the Holy Spirit to be your guide.” “You are asking for what I have already done.”  Does this seem foolish?

The word of God taught me this about God’s nature.  He loved me enough to send His son.  He is a good father and wishes to bless me.  He is capable of anything and everything.  God said; “just talk to me son.  I’m talking back through your bible and my spirit”

The best answer for a weak prayer life is: I don’t know what I want?  Better yet, what should I want?

Question:  Do you really know what you want?  If the answer is yes, then does it line up with God’s nature?

I learned that if my thoughts aligned with God’s nature by the Word of God then what I want will line up with what God has for me.  Wow!!  Prayers are now being answered because God cannot change to fit me, but He can act upon whom He is!

Pray in Faith!

If we doubt God enough to pray without faith then we are not really seeking God. In a way this is saying we don’t know God or we don’t believe in what He did for us.

I began to hear prayer and gain insight and wisdom.  Was this prayer “Begging” for God to do something that He had already done?  The answer many times was YES.  This really bothered me spiritually because the “Price” of His son is worth so much more than this unbelief.

To counter this “helpless” type prayer I began to go to God the way the Word tells us.  Boldly to the thrown of Grace and ask for God to reveal Himself to me.  I would pray for the needs in my life, but that part of prayer came after the part of “Your Will Be Done” We have all heard this before.

Hebrews 4:15-16For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

When we come “Boldly” to the thrown of GRACE we verify the grace we need and it points to Jesus as our victor.  This is a position of power and authority.  Only by the Grace of God are we worthy of anything!

To pray to God I believe we need to come to Him and ask Him to show us what’s next and how to tap into the destiny that He has for us.  Giving us guidance by His Holy Spirit to my life path and allow me to make the right decisions.

How can I make the best decisions?  First of all read the Word and listen with a humble heart to God.

Personal Testimony:  Through years of praying with my wife and children I have grown in my personal prayer life.  I have learned to ask for 3 things: Favor, Protection and Wisdom.  It really can be that simple.

This prayer is admitting that God is real to us and His favor in the world is all I need.  We should pray for Godly protection and most of all God’s Wisdom.  If God will impart His wisdom to us what more do we really need to be successful in walking out God’s plan?

Are your plans in the way of God’s when you pray?

There are times to ask for help from the Lord, but to helplessly beg God for things without knowing, following or seeking His will is somewhat of a contradiction. Personally I believe God expects more from us because he purchased us back with the blood of His son.  He gave us the ability to overcome our obstacles and walk in Victory.

Basically we need to truly receive the “Revelation” of the Blood of the Lamb and how great a price it was.

Revelations 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Father Help us to know you more by your Word.  We come boldly to your thrown of Grace and ask for your Favor, Protection and Wisdom each day of our life in Jesus name! Amen.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
