The Race of Faith

Daily Diary - January 2nd, 2016

Yesterday’s scripture Jeremiah 29:11 reminded us “God knows the plan He has for us”. Today I was led to expand on this by going a step further.

I gained a powerful revelation about God’s plan for our future in Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We learned yesterday that God knows the plan He has for us and now we see that God is the Author and Finisher of our Faith.  The revelation I received is based on this part of the scripture.

What does it mean that He is the Author and Finisher?

If God already knows the plan He has for us then what part do we play?

The answer is clear:  there is only one step we must take and that is the first step.  It is initiating the process.  How do we do it?  By Faith!

What is Faith?  Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

God simply wants us to have Faith!  Once we step out and walk in Faith trusting God we have placed our future in His hands.  That future is no longer ours and we simply need to allow God to be the Author and Finisher for our lives.

The word “Author” in the Webster dictionary means someone who writes a story or a book.  If God is the Author then He will write our story because he designed the outcome.  He also “finished” the work at the cross.  Finish in this sense means an end.  The only true end in God is our salvation into eternal life.  At the cross Jesus said, “It is Finished”.  Our part is simply to believe in Jesus Christ as our risen savior by faith!

In verse 1 it tells us to “run with endurance the race that is set before us.”  So therefore we are moving forward and running the race and allowing God to steer us along this already constructed path by faith.  God wants us to take the first step.

When we become discouraged and change our course in the wrong direction we have become the Author!  When we author our own race in our flesh nature we are not capable of a good finish.  This is the price that Jesus paid at the cross for us.  He finished it so we could choose life and a destiny in Him!

He is the Author and the Finisher of our faith.  So our job is simple…Apply Faith in God and initiate the process of trusting Him by seeking Him.  He will take the reigns of our life and Author and Finish it for us.  Sometimes it is difficult but we need to let go and trust God.  Otherwise we will remain discouraged and going down the wrong path without true peace in our lives.

In Summary:  God knows the plan (Jeremiah 29:11), He desires to be the Author and Finisher of our Faith (Hebrews 12:2).  Our job is to have faith and let Him do it!

Thank you Lord for having our back and steering us towards your destiny in JESUS NAME!  AMEN!

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
