DO YOU NEED REST?

Daily Diary March 19th 2016

Do You Need Rest?

There are many types of rest we can achieve.  These are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.  Most often when we think of rest it is physical.

Hebrews 4:1-3 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word, which they heard, did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heardit. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’”

Reading the word we learn that there is spiritual rest we can achieve in our Lord.  This spiritual rest is tied to faith as it states in verse 2.

Question:  Do you need rest?

So many times we hear people say they are tired but they have slept a lot.  They don’t understand how they can still need rest.  I believe that the stress in our lives of being disobedient to God’s word makes us spiritually tired.  We need to enter His rest and choosing obedience and walking in faith allows this based on His word.

I always go back to the scripture that talks about the word becoming flesh.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

To seek the Word or Jesus we are seeking one in the same.  Our peace comes from spiritual obedience to the Word and or also our relationship with Jesus Christ who came to save us from our sin.  This relationship brings us into His rest.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God

Our salvation is wrapped up in our faith and therefore so is our peace.  When we fear and walk in disobedience to the Word we fall short in our faith of who He is in our lives and this causes unrest.  I believe we can subconsciously be walking in disobedience and our spiritual nature of God knows it.  This conflict makes us unsettled and unrested.

When we repent and walk in forgiveness it keeps us in tune with God and allows us to rest spiritually.  If we are in a “Relationship” that we are playing our part we will be at rest.

If we dishonor our relationship we carry guilt, shame and condemnation with us that causes unrest in our lives.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God never leaves us or forsakes us, so we need to strive to do the same for God.  His part of this relationship is unshakable and is steady.  We are the ones that need a savior.  Our part needs work daily and not God’s.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Seek God first today and walk in His rest!

Father God we walk in repentance of our disobedience today and enter your rest by faith.  Thank you for not ever leaving us and for being our rest in life in Jesus name. Amen!

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
