WHAT DO YOU LOVE?

What Do You Love?

As we go through life we have desires that attract our attention.  The Word tells us we are either focused on the goodness of God or on the things of the World.

1 John 2:14 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

When we love the things of the world our heart is pointed to those things.  Our love cannot be on God and the World at the same time.  They are contrary to one another.

Galatians 5:16-17 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

Question:  What do you love today?

Throughout the bible we are told to love.  This would imply that love is a choice.  We are choosing to either love God or the world. We must conclude that the lust of the flesh, the lust of our eyes and the pride of life are pulling at us.  If we focus on those things they replace the love of God during such times.  If we choose to love God we love the goodness of the Father and who He is in our lives.  Our peace and joy that comes from Him is clearly in our hearts and we walk in His Godly love.

How many times today will we lust after material things like money, houses and cars? We also lust after prideful things such as fame, glory and sexual immorality. It’s all around us.  Many times we fool ourselves into thinking that our love is God first.

There is a strong fleshly desire in America to love other things than God.  Without His love abiding in us we are trapped in the enemies plan that deceives us and separates us from the love of the father. He doesn't stop loving us but by our choice we cause our own separation in our heart. This is our choice and a bad one.  God’s love remains true to us regardless of our mistakes.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

He proved this unconditional love for us by what Jesus did at the cross.  For our relationship to be complete with God it is OUR choice to love Him back.

1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loveus.

Father, We choose to love you today.  You chose to give us the greatest gift of love by sending your son.  It was a sacrifice that overcame the Worldly desires.  We seek your love today by choice in Jesus name! Amen
