Everything You Need

Do we seek to have everything we need or everything we want?  This is a good question.  We often find ourselves seeking many things that we have concluded as needs but more than likely they are wants that are unnecessary to live a Godly life.

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

The older Carrie and I become our concept of what’s important is changing.  When we seek God’s plan for life we start to see the goodness in Godly things such as our marriage, children, quality time and the joy of relationships.  These things start to outweigh the desire to have more material things.

Do you sacrifice material things of the world for the goodness of God?

Our society impresses upon us to “keep up with the Jones’s”, which causes people to sacrifice what is truly good in life in lieu of our jealous or envious desires.

Take time today to ask the question of what is really important.  I have learned that without seeking God on an ongoing basis we are not capable of noticing the value of eternal things such as love.

Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Many times we read this scripture and think the desires of our heart are the money, houses and material luxuries of life.  We are disappointed when God doesn’t dump all these fleshly wants in our lap.

The true desires of our heart are not found in things of the world but rather the things of God.

Question:  If you were given everything you “wanted” would you take time to find the good things of God?

Luke 12:29-31 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

Father God, give us the wisdom to know the difference in what we want and what we need.  We seek your kingdom today and ask that you provide for us the desires of our heart that come from your goodness in Jesus name! Amen.

Philippians 4:11-13 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
